GENERAL  MEMBERSHIP  MEETING

                                                      September 8, 2018

Opening:   10:10 am

 

Recognize Departed Friends:   Earl McDougal, Terry Clarke, Milt Christensen, and many others, per Tom’s handout and made a part of these minutes,  A very somber rendition of The Old Songs followed.

 

Symbolic passing of the BQPA Presidency by a rendition of Heart of my Heart with Lee Taylor taking

the place of Tom Noble in the quartet.

 

Tom read his Departure Message -  detailing the many things accomplished during his tenure as President.    The membership gave a resounding applause of appreciation for all that Tom ( and June )

have done for the BQPA over the past years.

 

Treasurers Report:   Jim Gallagher -    noted that the history of BQPA events has been that the West Festival had often lost a little money but this past year there was a $300 net over expenses.   The East Festival has traditionally had income exceeding expenses.    Bottom line:    our treasury is very solvent – funds available now:   $7436.08.

 

Actions taken since last meeting:   Tom Noble :

 

*   Sent card to Pete Tyree and Chuck Gutherie

*    Mostly completed the listing of Past Gold Medal BQPA QT. Champs and has asked Jim M. to post on the website.

*   Purchased Event Insurance for Fall – 2018 Festivals

*   Has received copies of BQPA’s Articles of Incorporation for State of Nevada

*   Updated Job Descriptions.

 

 

West Festival Report  - Jim Milner

 

*   Holiday Inn in Mesa now has new owner – all prices were significantly increased – Board has approved a move of our event to the Tempe Inn and Suites which has an airport shuttle, adequate meeting room, hotel sponsored ‘ social hour with free beer’ - Rooms will be $90/night plus tax.  All details will be posted on website.

 

 

East Festival Report – Gerry Carroll

 

*   Thanks to Raymond Swarzkopf for Mcing tonight and for the talent acquisition for tonight’s show, which has been very difficult for him.

*   Negotiations with this hotel is always friendly and easy.   Everyone always seems satisfied with the hotel and arrangements.

 

 

Registrars Report  -  Tom Noble ( filing in for June )

 

*   Our average attendance is now about 59

*   The Donations Thermometer has been effective – donations are up.

*   PLEASE  -  everyone must register at each event – and update your info. - only way we know

how many have attended and how to plan for next event.

*   Please note the merchandise that is available.  Cloth patches are out of stock but have been re-ordered.

 

Gerry Carroll:   We need to increase our attendance at these events – more rooms taken makes it easier to deal with the hotel.

 

Lee Taylor:   Call your quartet friends and encourage attendance

 

Tom Noble:   We are presently sending notices of up coming events to all membership via the Google Groups.

 

Tom Noble:  We will create announcements on Google Group email – also have a FaceBook page.   Big screen displays at big events are still possible -  wear your BQPA pins to all Barbershop events.

 

Lee Taylor:   be sure to send a positive email to the hotel.  -   Status of succession =   thanks to Bernie for accepting the VP position and taking over the Chairmanship of the West Festival. - recognizing all other Board members who have agreed to continue in their positions.

 

John Close:   If we have 380 members +/- and only have 70 here – give me the names and phone numbers of 10 and I will call them and invite to Mesa.

 

 

Communications and Public Relations – Tom Noble

 

Tom has been unable to communicate with Jordan Busboom who has agreed to take over this job.

 

*   Big Screen slides, promoting BQPA/Pioneers were presented at 2017 Harmony Inc. International Convention.

Don Doss:   The newsletter that is being sent out to the membership should also be sent to others, to promote attendance.

 

Ton Noble:    Art Dussenburg has some suggestions on improving communications.

Lee Taylor:   Noted that Pete Tyree is among the missing this weekend.

 

Gerry Carroll:    He and Bernie Esberner visited Pete in August.   Pete told them that he really wants

to attend Chicago but is not sure his health will allow it.
